About

After studying graphic design at the Central School of Art & Design in London and further training in glass kiln forming, glass fusing and glass blowing techniques in the USA and England, Cathryn Shilling set up her studio in 2009. Cathryn has always pushed the technical constraints of her material. She is known for her innovative approach in articulating her visual language through movement and colour. The result are one-off sculptural creations which capture a visual dialogue akin to characters on a stage.

Greatly inspired by kinesics, her works reflect a non-verbal narrative that evokes a stylised sense of human movement. The apparent frailty of the glass is balanced by strong dynamic forms. The science behind her work allows her to interpret, rather than reproduce her observations and encounters throughout this remarkable planet.

Alongside her artistic practice, Cathryn worked as the curator of London Glassblowing’s Gallery for over 10 years.
Cathryn’s work is exhibited widely and collected internationally.
